The Woman Behind the Business: 15 things you probably didn't know about me!
I wanted to keep my About page short and sweet but in case you wanted to find out more about the woman behind the business, here are 15 little things about me :)
I live in Somerset but was born and raised in Cardiff, although without much of an accent, I’m told.
I’m a mummy to a cool kid, who never ceases to amaze me, and a small fluffy dog called Gizmo, who sounds a bit like a wookie when he growls. He’s a Shih Apso - a cross between a Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso. Gizmo loves eating sausages, barking in cafés and getting fussed and told he’s beautiful.
Our little person is pretty much the same…
My husband, Pete, taught me how to make branches for hair vines because he taught himself the techniques when he made wire gem trees as centre pieces for our wedding. We’ve been together 13 years and married 5. He has curly hair that you can hide pens in and is my best friend.
He also likes every blog post I share on social media but doesn’t always read them. I’ve had words…
I’m vegetarian but I really don’t like mushrooms. And no, I don’t miss bacon!
I speak French and Spanish and used to teach both at secondary school before starting Elsa Rose Boutique
According to Pete, when I respond to emails or messages from friends or clients, I’m always smiling when I reply.
I have a thing about Robins. I always see one when I’m feeling unsettled about something or need reassurance.
I have a fear of daddy long legs…I freeze to the spot or move very slowly to get out of their way until someone can trap them. It’s ridiculous really. It gives my little person and Pete the chance to be heroic though I suppose…
I love the symbolism of feathers but can’t stand to touch them. Even so, the first thing I bought myself from the profits from my business was the dainty feather bracelet I wear on my right wrist, which has a little diamond set in it.
I drink so much tea at home but always have coffee when I go out. I spend far too much time in coffee shops!
I love going to bookshops (Waterstones is my favourite).
I can tap dance.
I don’t like having my photo taken but am ok with video, weirdly. I’m so grateful to my colleague Ben Kirkly for taking the photos of me for the website - he has so much patience! The day we did the photoshoot, Pete had gone to work with my car key in his pocket (we don’t have a spare) and my house keys were locked in the car. Of course, I only realised this at 8:25am when we had to leave for the school run, which resulted in a rather expensive taxi ride around town to drop little one in and go and find my keys.
I mean, why had I even left them in the car?!
The fact that Ben managed to capture me with a natural smile after all the faffing around that day speaks wonders!
The best part of my job is getting to meet lovely people and contribute something to their special day.
When I started Elsa Rose Boutique, I had no idea that it would transform in the way that it has. I’m grateful to every one of you who reads the blog, subscribes to my newsletter, shares my work and generally supports the work I do.
It means the world.
