Real Bride Inspiration: How Helena Added Sentimental Details To Her Headpiece

Today I’m sharing the story behind one of my favourite headpieces and celebrating a lovely woman and beautiful bride, the new Mrs Bithell!

Before I do though, can we all just take a moment to admire her denim jacket that she embroidered herself?

(I won’t reveal the secret message she wanted to add in to it! Let’s just say I think it summed up the sentiment of most brides here in the UK following countless confusing government announcements around weddings!)

I was honoured when Helena asked me to make her headpiece for her. She’s incredibly creative and I originally thought she’d like to have a go at making her own, but instead she chose to invest in something a little different.

It has been the most wonderful experience to work with Sarah on designing this.

Her headpiece was themed around two things: pearls (because she’d not had many occasions to wear them) and forget-me-nots, which featured throughout the details of her wedding.

The forget-me-nots held a deeper meaning to Helena though.

Having lost her grandpa early last year to Alzheimer’s, Helena and her now husband, Tom, had decided to have favours from the Alzheimer’s Society, whose symbol coincidentally is the forget-me-not. She said in her Instagram post how it would feel like her grandpa was there on the day, and, falling head over heels for phrases like this as I do, I knew instinctively what she needed in her headpiece.

Sarah was able to take all my ideas and turn them into something so magical and special.

When I sent Helena the sketches, she loved the idea of the little blue flowers and we designed some simpler pins for her bridesmaids that would tie everything together. As she was torn between two shades of blue she loved, we went with both and I think it worked perfectly.

Helena’s bridesmaids’ pins. Each bridesmaid had 5 pins each, designed to match the forget-me-not inspired flowers in Helena’s headpiece. Her two bridesmaids had blue flowers on their pins, while her maid of honour’s pins were in the blue-green shade

The idea for the pearls draping through her hair was inspired by her dream hairstyle, a half up do with a braid.

I’ve never seen anything like what Sarah’s made for me here.

While Tom and Helena’s original plans had to adapt to smaller numbers and greater restrictions than originally hoped, the two had the best day and are finally husband and wife.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Bithell! I can’t wait to see the photos from your big celebration in the summer! Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness :)
