Statement Beaded Headpieces To Fall In Love With (That Aren't Headbands!)
The last few years have seen a rise in popularity of big, beaded headbands adorning brides’ heads and the trend looks set to continue for some time.
However, as you may have realised if you’ve been reading my blog or following me on Instagram and Pinterest for a while, trends aren’t really my thing.
To me, personal style is what makes a statement. It can be subtle or a statement, but what makes your style work is that it is personal to you. And you wear it well 😊
Personally, the big, beaded headbands don’t float my boat and remind me of headbands I wore in the ‘80s, but I can appreciate why someone would choose one for their wedding day.
If you’re looking for a statement beaded headpiece for your wedding hair that isn’t a headband that everyone else is wearing, I have a few alternatives for you to inspire you to think outside the box.
Gold Coast
Gold Coast was one of my most challenging pieces to create, but I will always have a soft spot for her.
She was one of the first vines I designed for my Going Coastal collection during lockdown. The thought of sitting in the sun on a sandy beach away from my town in Somerset was captured in the warm gold wire, with pale pinks, pearls and opalescent blues to reflect the colours in the sky as the sun starts to set.
Gold Coast is a winner if you’re looking for the beaded headband effect without the…well, puffy headband, I guess!
She can be worn across your head as you would a headband, pinned at either end with a hair grip or attached to ribbons that can be tied at the nape of your neck, or she could be worn around an up do, as a necklace or even as a bridal belt.
Amalfi and Atlantis
Amalfi and Atlantis are shorter vines that both feature beaded clusters of pearls, crystals and gemstones that burst with colour.
Amalfi’s warmer tones of copper, rose quartz and pink jade make a statement while keeping the colours fairly neutral and tonal - change her wire to silver and the colours would likely look more subtle but still give a pretty wash of colour if you’re looking for something a little different to traditional pearls.
Atlantis, her cooler-toned counterpart features a statement amethyst gemstone at the centre, surrounded by pearls, blue jade and aqua crystals, inspired by cooler waters. This piece draws the eye in with the mix of colours and will certainly make a statement.
Little side note: I made Atlantis while listening to The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill, a retelling of The Little Mermaid, so this vine is a little hint to the depths of the ocean and the fantasy world that could exist within it!
While these vines are shorter, they sit beautifully above a veil, to one side of your head or will compliment an up do. They can also be stitched on to your dress or threaded with ribbon to create a belt, a necklace or even a statement cuff bracelet!
Riviera
Because a comb will always be a classic bridal accessory!
Smaller pieces can still make a big statement and Riviera’s large yellow Aventurine stones, large crystal pearls and hints of aquamarine crystals add interest to what could otherwise have been a fairly plain piece.
Wear her to one side, pinned into Hollywood waves, or slotted into a sleek up do. To make her feel more secure in your hair, use a few hair grips over her flat teeth to hold her in place.
One thing I’d love to share with you though is that you can take inspiration from all of these pieces and make them your own - lengthen the shorter vines or have them made into combs or pins; have the details on the comb recreated as a hair vine or, if headbands are your thing, these designs can all be attached to a headband for you.
