Real Bride Inspiration - Transforming A Hair Vine With Rose

If you’ve seen my Hair Accessory Wishlist (if not, go take a look, I can wait!) and clicked on the pieces there, you’ll know there’s a few ideas for how to adapt each piece and one of them is to transform the accessory into another type, eg a comb into a vine.

To help me illustrate that for you today (and to help you see what’s possible!) I’m putting my beautiful bride, Rose, in the spotlight and sharing how we adapted a vine (and headband!) into hair pins.

This is such a lovely transformation and I hope you love it as much as I do - feel free to leave a comment below and let me know if this is something you would consider too!

Hi! I’m Sarah…

An accessory designer who celebrates the women behind the bride title and supports them through the highs and lows of wedding planning by building their confidence and creating pieces that make them feel amazing.

Rose and I had been chatting about her wedding plans and she told me she loved the colours in my Pebble headband.

“Do you think I could try it on?” She asked.

She loved the colours even more in real life and, trying it on, felt it was a winner but wanted to get a second opinion from her mum first. It was also an added bonus that the jade beads in the design were a perfect match for her bridesmaid dresses!

But all that changed when she visited my studio with her mum to show her the headband and saw the matching vine…

I love a good solid headband myself as I know how dreadful I am at fussing with my hair, but I also know that if you’re wearing your hair up, you may want to accent the style with your accessories so a flexible headpiece may be a better match.

After talking it through together, Rose felt that the vine would work better in her up do and we started talking about weaving it through her chosen hair style.

That’s when I gave her my top tip!

Instead of weaving a vine through your hair, why not have it created on individual pins, which can be easily manipulated around your up do with the loops at the ends of the details discretely pinned in place?

That way, you have greater flexibility and your hair won’t get tangled in a long length of wire, so they’ll be easier to remove at the end of the evening and neither your hair nor your pins will get damaged in the process.

(I share loads more helpful tips in my free accessory guide - grab yours below!)

Decision made - Rose LOVED the idea of the pins! She also decided to have a single pin made for each of her three bridesmaids and I made a mental note to include a single feature colour from her pins in each of theirs so they all coordinated but had a unique twist. As someone who always wanted to stand out yet blend in, these things really matter to me! (Am I alone in that or do you get it too?)

Having something personalised for you gives you that warm glow inside, like you matter, but its subtlety makes it seem like a private moment, making it even more special.

Even though Rose had a clear idea of how the design would look, I still sketched it out for her so she could see how the pins would look and how they would work together in her hair. This also helped me to make sure that I balanced out the colours so that each pin could stand alone and still work as a set.

My favourite thing about these pins has to be the beautiful delicate colours - a friend described them as being like sea glass and I totally agree! Aren’t they beautiful? They’re a combination of freshwater and crystal pearls, rose quartz, green jade and beads that I carefully made by hand using a marbling technique.

Rose’s bespoke hair pins, inspired by my Pebble vine and headband and designed to work with her bridal hair style.

Rose loved her pins and from the pictures I’ve seen, they looked beautiful in her hair.

It was a pleasure working with her; I really feel that this design echoed her calmness through the choice of colours and her ability to go with the flow in the way the details on these pins flow. I wish both her and her husband lots of love and the very best for their future together as Mr and Mrs!

Now you’ve seen it done, would you consider changing a vine into hair pins? Why not add your favourites to your Wishlist and let me know you’d like to transform them this way and I’ll be in touch with some ideas to inspire you!
