One of my beautiful brides, Annie, asked me this on Instagram recently:

"Which colour hair accessory works best in blonde hair?"

So I thought I’d share some tips in case you were wondering the same :)

Blonde hair can present a challenge in that the details on delicate accessories can often get lost, while they stand out beautifully in darker haired brides. There are ways to work around this though, which I’ll share shortly! But first…

Be guided by your dress and jewellery

Your dress and other jewellery are more likely to guide you towards your hair accessory, and you’re more likely to be drawn to one metal colour over another. If you’ve chosen an ivory dress for example, you may find that you’re more drawn to warmer metals, while those wearing white may have silver in mind.

Blonde is by no means the most complicated hair colour to work with in terms of choosing a metal colour for your accessory - redheads will know the struggle of colours clashing with their fiery locks and I’ll share some tips for brunettes, redheads and raven-haired beauties soon!

Copper and Gold: A match made in heaven for warm blondes

For blondes on the warmer end of the spectrum (think golden and honey blonde), gold and copper are harmonious choices for you!

Gold is your subtle choice, blending with your hair colour and not looking stark, while helping pearls stand out against your fair hair.

Copper is your statement though! It’s similar to rose gold, but with a much warmer finish, so it compliments your warmer tones beautifully. Copper will stand out more than gold, so it’s perfect for highlighting detailed wire work.

Silver and Rose Gold: The perfect match for cooler blondes

Cooler toned blondes (think platinum and ash blonde), silver and rose gold are your champions here! You will find that their cooler tones work in harmony with yours, while copper and gold overpower your delicate colouring.

Silver is your subtle choice and you can showcase the details and help your accessory to stand out by adding in delicate colours with your crystals. Rather than a clear crystal, for example, one with a more silvery tone to it or an AB option (which has a rainbow effect when the light hits it) are good examples of how to keep it subtle.

Rose gold is your talking piece though! Similar to copper for your warmer counterparts, rose gold lets the structural details do the talking and will make a real statement.

Other things to consider

  • Let your dress and jewellery be your guide when choosing a metal colour. You’ll find that you’re more drawn to one metal than the others based on the other elements of your look

  • If you’re worried about your accessory not being visible enough in your hair, look for something with more metallic elements that will create a focal feature and draw the eye in. I often help brides to incorporate brooches in to their headpieces to give this effect and you can still do this and keep your headpiece delicate if you want to.

  • Don’t overthink it! If you love it, buy it. That is all! You know your style better than anyone, so if you’re drawn to something, it’s there for a reason :)

If you found this helpful, I’d love it if you could give it a share or tell a friend who would benefit from it too!
